We think you’ll find that, unlike many web studios, Variant has a down-to-earth approach that is both creative and accommodating. We also think you’ll appreciate the personal, friendly service that helps define Variant Studios.

Below are the biographies of the talented people behind Variant Studios.

Brent Robbins
Brent Robbins
Project Manager / Flash Programmer / Website Expert Extraordinaire

In 2001, after building a few web sites for local business, Brent started Variant Studios. In 2003, he finally decided to jump in with both feet and rented an office in Greeley. He has been happily growing his website design and development family ever since. He started an intern program for local college students in 2004 and has also been on the advisory board at Aims Community College.

After being on the advisory board for more than 4 years, Aims asked if he would teach some classes for them. In October 2008, he began teaching Web Design I. He currently teaches Flash II & Web Design II and is working on a committee to bring a curriculum for 'mobile development' and 'video for the the web' to Aims. During his non-existent free time, he enjoys playing hockey and both mountain and road biking.

Philip Van Drunen
Philip Van Drunen
Lead Developer / Drupal Guru

Phil is a native of Holland, Mich., where he lived and worked until early 2008, when he moved to Greeley as a newlywed with his lovely wife, Tammi.

Phil was officially trained in the arts of Video and Film production and has a complementary bachelor's degree in Entertainment Business from Full Sail University, which is located in Orlando, Fla. He graduated in 2005.

Phil is a self-taught website designer/developer and has worked as a freelancer in the field of multimedia production for the past 9 years.  Phil has been building sites using the Drupal content management system for years. Among other responsibilities, he serves as the in-house Variant Studios Drupal expert.

If Phil had any spare time, you might find him playing the piano, or flying his virtual RC helicopter — hopefully next year he'll have enough "virtual" flight time under his belt to prevent more catestrophic crashes, which have historically meant hours of repairs.

Misty Barnes
Misty Barnes
Designer / Copy Writer / Resident Wordfinder

Misty comes to Variant Studios from the print world, having worked in the newspaper industry as a reporter, editor and page designer for 17 years. She has a bachelor's degree in Journalism / Mass Communication from the University of Nebraska-Kearney, as well as a degree in Web Design & Development from Aims Community College. She has worked at the Greeley Tribune and the Rocky Mountain News, as well as other newspapers in Nebraska and Arkansas. Misty decided to jump the newspaper industry ship and now is immersed in web design and copy writing for Variant Studios. She lives in Greeley with her husband, Mike, and spends what little spare time she has taking orders from their two daughters and one cantankerous cat.
